Transat Distribution Canada is Canada’s leading retail distributor of holiday travel, with some 500 outlets. The network, which is associated with Transat A.T. Inc., includes the Transat Travel, Marlin Travel, Club Voyages, TravelPlus, Voyages en Liberté brands, as well as other affiliate members. Transat Distribution Canada is a business unit of Transat A.T. Inc., one of the largest integrated tourism companies in the world, committed to sustainable development and recognized as a Travelife Partner.

History

Founded in 1987, Transat is now one of the largest international tour operators in the world. Distribution has been at the heart of the vertical integration strategy of the organization since its inception. Moreover, in 1979, following a reopening of a travel agency, Jean-Marc Eustache and Philippe Sureau laid the foundation of what will become Transat by creating Trafic Voyages with Lina De Cesare.

In 1988, Transat significantly expanded its presence in retail distribution by acquiring an interest in the Consultour franchisor and the Club Voyages network, which was at that time the largest group of travel agencies in Quebec, and which Transat will acquire entirely nearly 10 years later. In 1999, Transat begins selling holidays online with the creation of the exit.ca agency, now called exitnow.ca.

In 2001, Transat acquires, through Consultour, the network of independent travel agencies TravelPlus and, in 2005, takes a majority stake in Travel Superstore Inc., a company based in Hamilton, Ontario, which operates travel agencies and a website dedicated to travel under the name tripcentral.ca.

In 2006, the company strengthens its presence throughout Canada, and particularly in Ontario and Western Canada, by acquiring the network of Canadian travel agencies Thomas Cook Travel Limited in which the agencies are united under the Thomas Cook and Marlin Travel brands. This transaction makes Transat the largest travel agent in the country.

Today, through its Transat Distribution Canada business unit, Transat is Canada’s leader in the holiday travel retail distribution with some 500 outlets.
